Baby water moccasin. The quick and easy way to identify a water moccasin is to look for its wedge shaped blocky head from above as in a boat you cant see its eyes check for the heat sensing slits beneath and between its eyes and nose and note its olive dark tan dark brown or an almost black body thick and python like in its girth especially in the middle before it tapers to a long thin tip. Water moccasins incubate their eggs within the body of the mother because they are ovoviviparous. Water moccasins are ovoviviparous which means that eggs incubate inside the mothers body. Older adults are often much darker almost solid black.
The body of this young venomous water moccasin is very thick for its length and has a relatively short thick tail. Their diet mainly consists of fish birds other snakes frogs rodents baby alligators lizards and small turtles. They generally carry around 10 20 eggs and give birth every 2 3 years. After mating in the spring the females will give birth 3 4 months later at which point the young must fend for themselves.
